Principal Accompanist

Robert M. Mondoy (b. 1952) was raised on Moloka’i and first learned piano at age 7.

During high school he continued his piano studies and was involved in numerous community service projects on Oahu and Moloka’i during his formative years.

An AMFAC scholarship enabled study at Punahou Music School, climaxing with a radio broadcast performance on Ben Hyams’ “Young Hawai’i Musician of the Month”.

University of Hawai’i scholarships provided tutorship under Beebee Freitas and Robert graduated with a Bachelor’s in Music Piano Performance Degree in 1976. He continued at San Francisco State University to complete a Masters in Music Theory and Composition.

As a church musician,  he has directed the music ministry as St. John Vianney for 40 years, and also serves as the music consultant to the Diocese of Honolulu. His liturgical compositions include dozens of Mass settings and hundreds of psalm settings, in national, Hawaiian and Filipino inculturation styles.

A piano instructor himself, his piano compositions range from collections for young students to the advanced pianist.  

Robert frequently performs concerti with various O’ahu community orchestras.

He is also engaged in historical music research and notation of Hawaiian language songs. Among his efforts are the notation scores for the Lena Machoado and recent Noe Mahoe song collections.
